Post Discharge Continous Education of Patients with the Valve Replacement Operation


Abstract
The data for this study was collected during February 1993-May 1993. From 45 OPD follow-uped patients who had the open heart valve replacement the informed status of the different timecourse(under 6 months, 7-12 months, 13-24months. 25-36months,
above
37mionths) needed for medication, diet, physical activity, and emotional stability.
The purpose of this study is to collect the basic data for developing a program to educate the patients continously after post-op discharge. As for medication. After 12 months drugs from herb medicine is ingested besides doctors regular
precrition,
and
in diet, after 12months the compliance on low salt diet is reduced. It is found that patients need the education about the individual amount of activity after 6 months when the operation indurced wound come to heal intact, and that the other
factors
such as age, occupation, operated valves have influenced on coming back to work. As for the physical discomforts, myalgia and discomfort in operated sites remains till 6 months after the operation and then symptoms induced by increased activities
and
poor control en low salt die replace the main. According to the data on the emtional discomfort it is found that the causes of the emtional upset in more than half of that patients are due to physical discomfort, shortage of knowledge, fear about
death,
and excessive or low support form families.
As above we come to know that comtinous education is needed for the valve replaced patients about 12 months after op(6-12months) when the physical discomfort due to op itself is relieved.
